Main Street Housing and On Our Own of Maryland have launched the AGENTS OF CHANGE Campaign in order to raise significant funds to meet our most pressing and important need: expanding our education, outreach, advocacy and service programs that meet the needs of Maryland citizens using behavioral health services through expansion and enhancement of our new permanent headquarters. Our work enriches the lives of the people we serve and ensures the voices of people with lived experience guide behavioral health policy, service design and delivery.

Who We Are

On Our Own of Maryland, Inc. (OOOMD) and Main Street Housing, Inc. (MSH) work in Maryland to empower, promote and enhance recovery and resilience for adults and youth experiencing behavioral health challenges. We are dedicated to promoting equality in all aspects of society for people who receive behavioral health services. Our efforts over the past 30 years have significantly advanced the quality of life for all Marylanders living with behavioral health disorders. We accomplish this through a combination of expertly-delivered direct services (education, training, housing) and effective advocacy for systems change. The technical assistance and training we provide to our statewide network of Wellness and Recovery Centers across Maryland helps them offer more effective outreach, peer support and wellness activities to their communities.

After many years of searching, we have secured a permanent headquarters in Howard County, MD. Our 5,000 sqft headquarters offers ample space to hold meetings and trainings as we continue to expand our array of initiatives and services benefiting Maryland’s behavioral health community. The campaign will complete the final phases of construction to achieve:
  • State of the art meeting rooms equipped with robust IT integration (audio/video recording and webcasting) that will enable us to provide dynamic and productive collaborations as OOOMD and MSH brings together stakeholders from consumer, provider and advocacy groups for critical policy advocacy efforts, technical assistance and training. The flexible meeting space and enhanced communication capacity also allows for more streamlined and coordinated responses to time-sensitive situations.
  • Modern, flexible, networked workspace that will bring greater efficiency to the multiple projects and initiatives we offer to inform and positively impact a recovery-oriented system of behavioral health care. Our welcoming and inviting headquarters will ensure our ability to expand programs and projects for persons with lived experience of behavioral health disorders in areas of employment, health and wellness, housing, recovery, dignity and civil rights.

AGENTS OF CHANGE is a $1 million campaign to acquire, renovate and fully outfit our headquarters with flexible, state-of-the-art meeting/training rooms and workspace. Our campaign priorities are as follows:

  • Furnishings and equipment to meet a variety of meeting, training and workspace scenarios
  • Upgraded IT equipment to support existing and expanding programs and initiatives, including equipment for audio/video recording and webcasting

IV. Debt Reduction - $100,000

Securing The Future

Our new headquarters considerably strengthens and increases our capacity for continued expansion to meet the rapidly growing needs for behavioral health peer services and advocacy across the state. Most importantly, our permanent home secures our continuing impact in transforming the behavioral health sector to a person-centered, culturally competent, recovery-oriented system of care. Our efforts and initiatives demonstrate and promote the reality that people can and do recover, and this successful campaign will effectively secure a foothold for the voices of people with lived experience in matters of state and federal policy, service design and delivery.
